Car Seat: Infant Passenger Safety Class
Did you know that more than half of car seats are not used or installed correctly? This class is designed to help parents and caregivers feel more confident about correct car seat use through demonstration and presentation of evidence-based guidelines. Join our Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) certified RN educators for education on car seat safety for infants through their first year of life. Learn how to select a car seat, and how to secure the seat and your child in the car safely. This course utilizes discussion, video, written materials, sample seat belt systems and car seat demonstrations, and includes hands-on activity with commonly used car seats. Anyone who transports infants is encouraged to attend. (Each registration includes up to two adults). Infants and children can spend a lot of time in the car, and it is important to learn ways to keep them safe.
It is recommended to take this class prior to purchasing a car seat so many expectant parents take it early in pregnancy. However, if you have already purchased a car seat, please bring it with you to class.
Topics include:
- MN child passenger safety laws
- Car seat features and selection
- Installation basics: Seat belt system and LATCH system
- Avoiding or fixing common mistakes
- When to change your car seat
- Additional best practice and resources
