Sibling Class 7-12 year olds
A new baby is an exciting time for your entire family. Preparing older children and helping them feel included in the process can support a smoother transition for everyone.
Topics to be covered include:
- Age-appropriate descriptions about pregnancy and the birthing process.
- Building confidence and understanding in what it means to be a big sibling.
- Safety behaviors around the baby:
- Safe bathing practices
- Safe-sleep spaces
- Safety measures with food
- Creating a safe play/toy area
- Child(ren) will practice swaddling, diapering, feeding, dressing and holding baby dolls.
- Understanding mixed feelings, regressive behaviors, or communication difficulties that are common and normal when becoming a big sibling.
- Child(ren) and parent(s) will learn age-appropriate breathing techniques for when big emotions arise.
- A special sibling tour of the Mother/Baby unit.
Parent(s) or guardian(s) must attend this class with child(ren). The class cost of $15 is for the family unit.
